FAQ
How do I get placed on an assignment?
For new candidates, the first step is to complete our online application by following the link in the open jobs section of the website.
We will then contact those who have completed our online application for the positions we are staffing and conduct a telephone interview. If you meet all the qualifications, you will be placed on the schedule and await the deployment order.
For personnel who are already in our application database, we run searches based on the job skills we are looking for and either email or call those individuals to see if they are interested in the assignment. If you meet the qualifications and are available for the assignment, you will be placed on the schedule.
Where are the assignments?
Assignments can be located anywhere in the United States. We currently do not work internationally.
How often will I work?
The amount of work we have is dependent on many variables, including what contracts we have, whether the strike happens or not, etc. Employment with Huffmaster is contingent employment. We encourage you to keep your contact information including both a phone number and email address up-to-date with us so we can contact you when we have assignments that meet your qualifications.
How many hours will I work?
For non-local personnel: shifts are typically 10-12 hours per day. The number of hours guaranteed per full week deployment will change from assignment to assignment. Typically, they are 60 hours per each full work week. The weekly guarantee will be listed in each deployment agreement.
For local personnel: shift times will vary depending on the assignment.
How long are the assignments?
Assignments can last from a day or two up to several months. Because we mostly work in strike situations, there is no way to know in advance how long an assignment will last.
Is there a specific period of time I must sign up for to deploy?
The amount of required commitment on your part will range from 45 to 60 days depending on the assignment, although there is always the possibility the strike or assignment will end early. Please speak to a recruiter for commitment requirements for specific assignments. The number of days of commitment will also be in the deployment agreement. After you reach the commitment for that specific assignment, you will have the option to continue at the site or return home.
Can I bring a pet or family member?
We cannot accommodate pets or family members.
Why do you require experience on all assignments?
Because the companies we work for are on strike, they need the workforce we provide to be proficient and able to hit the ground running. Therefore, we need people who do not require training in any of the skilled positions.
Can I work for Huffmaster if I do not live in the United States?
We do not offer or assist with work visas. Everyone who works for Huffmaster must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
How do I get to the job site?
For non-local positions: we will provide confirmation of a prepaid airplane ticket. All you need to do is arrive at the airport with your luggage, money for baggage fees and identification, and check in at the counter. If you are flying an airline that charges for baggage, Huffmaster will reimburse you for ONE checked bag if you turn in your receipt to your coordinator when you arrive at the job site.
Please make sure to arrive at least 2 hours before your flight is scheduled to depart to allow time to check in and get through security.
If you live too close to fly, we will reimburse mileage to drive to the job site up to 300 miles each way, or provide transportation by other commercial transportation.
For local positions: some of our clients prefer us to recruit from the local job market. On those assignments, you will be responsible to commute daily from your home to a meeting location where you will be transported across the picket line by our security personnel.
How much lead time will I have before I need to travel?
The specific deployment date is often not known until 12-48 hours before we deploy. Those who can travel within 24 hours’ notice are preferred.
What documentation is needed to fly?
The TSA requires a valid government-issued photo ID in order to fly. The name on your ID must match the name on your ticket. Please make sure your name is accurate on the flight we send you.
Where do I stay?
We provide hotel accommodations at a hotel in the vicinity of the facility.
Do I have to share a room?
Yes, personnel are assigned two people to a hotel room, with a bed for each. We try to put people in rooms with opposite shift personnel. However, due to many variables, this cannot be guaranteed.
What about costs for meals?
Each person staying in provided housing will receive daily per diem to be used for meal expenses. This is paid daily on a debit card you will be issued when you arrive at the first strike you work. You should keep your card, as it can be used from assignment to assignment.
How do I get around/get food?
You will be picked up at the airport when you arrive at your destination city and will be transported to the job site. We will have vehicles that transport you to and from the job, as well as for courtesy runs during your off hours. Whenever possible, we try to stay in hotels that also have food/restaurants within walking distance.
What do I wear?
If there are specific clothing requirements, that will be conveyed during the scheduling and deployment agreement process. We ask ALL our employees to represent Huffmaster well, therefore all clothing should be clean, free from holes and offensive wording/photos/drawings, and fit properly.
Many assignments require steel/composite-toed safety shoes. Even if your assignment doesn’t require the safety shoes, ALL employees should always wear slip resistant shoes while working.
Do I need to bring my own tools?
Most assignments do not require you to bring your own tools. If an assignment wants you to bring tools, we will let you know when scheduling.
What is the rate of pay?
The rate of pay varies depending on the type of work and the facility. Please see the job posting or speak to a recruiter for the pay rate for specific assignments.
When do we get paid?
Paydays are every Monday. Pay weeks are Sunday through Saturday. It takes one week to process payroll. For example, for pay period Sunday, June 3 – Saturday, June 9, the pay date for that period would be Monday, June 18.
How will I receive my wages?
You will have the option of direct deposit to your personal bank account, have your wages paid on the debit card issued for per diem, or a paper check. Please note paper checks are mailed to your home address, and sent via United States Postal Service, so we recommend direct deposit or the payroll debit card so you will have access to your funds while on assignment.
Why does my recruiter change?
Our recruiters work in all areas of our department: healthcare strike staffing, security staffing, as well as industrial staffing. Depending on what strikes/assignments we are currently staffing, recruiters may be moved to work in specific areas or on specific strikes.
I’ve been requested to send in documents, how can I send them to you?
Depending on the position, you may be requested to submit copies of documents such as your DOT card if you are a CDL driver, etc. You can submit documents in several ways:
Email: Please email copies of your documents to profiles@huffmaster.com
Fax: Please fax to 866.686.5284
If you do not have access to a traditional scanner or fax, there are many free programs for smartphones that can scan your documents using the camera on your phone. One that works well is called Camscanner Free.
How often should I check in?
If you are available to work, please check in with recruiters once per week. Call the industrial staffing hotline at 800.486.1544 and let the recruiter know you are available for an assignment. You may also check in by sending an email to staffing@huffmaster.com.
Do you just do strikes?
No, we also staff for companies when they have a staffing shortage.
