Vice President of Operations, Protective Services Group
As Vice President of Operations for the Protective Services Group of Huffmaster Companies, Ryan Okerstrom is responsible for the day-to-day management of our security services and remote monitoring divisions.
Ryan oversees all operational aspects of the Protective Services Group, including organizational structure and group performance, in order to achieve corporate strategic goals. He manages the design, implementation, and monitoring of security policies, procedures, and program execution. In addition, Ryan oversees business development initiatives to ensure continual growth of the division.
Ryan has more than 25 years of experience in security operations, joining Huffmaster after a more than 22-year career at Guardsmark/Allied Universal, the largest security company in North America. Ryan held roles of increasing responsibility during his time with Guardsmark, overseeing protective services across North America for clients including major automotive and military production facilities, chemical and pharmaceutical plants, class A office complexes, educational and financial institutions, sports stadiums and retail mall environments. He is a two-time winner of the prestigious Guardsmark Diversity Management Award for the training and promotion of minority employees.
As a certified National Rifle Association firearms instructor in multiple disciplines, Ryan was also responsible for firearms training for Guardsmark in Michigan, in addition to security-related training and development for the organization. Ryan worked closely with his team to increase new business development annually. He also provided leadership and assisted with the transition during the organization’s acquisition by Allied Universal.
Ryan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University, holds eighteen security-related certifications, and has been a member of ASIS International since 1995. He is an Executive Board Member and the Director of Competition for the Michigan United Soccer League, an Executive Board Member and Director for the Michigan Soccer Association, a volunteer youth coach for the Livonia Soccer Club, and manager of three adult teams for the Canton Celtic Football Club.
In 2021, Ryan was inducted into the Michigan State University School of Criminal Justice Wall of Fame for Distinguished Alumni. Each year, the School of Criminal Justice awards distinguished alumni who meet specific criteria with respect to their careers in the Criminal Justice field by electing them to the school’s Wall of Fame. This award is the highest recognition by the School, reserved for the alumni who are the “best of the best.”
